Customize an FAQ group's name and friendly URL

  1. Go to Admin > FAQ Groups.
  2. Find the group you want to customize and click on its Edit Group Settings () icon in the Actions column.
  3. Under the General tab, use the options in the Group Name and URL box to rename the group or change its friendly URL.
    1. To rename a group, edit the text in the Name field and click the Save button.
    2. To change the group's friendly URL, edit the text in the Friendly URL field and click the Save button.
      • Each group, except for your system's default group, must have a friendly URL. This is the web address that will be used to access the group's pages. Although a group's friendly URL is initially set when the group is created, you can change it any time.
      • Your default group cannot have a friendly URL set. That group uses your LibAnswers URL as its landing page.
      • Friendly URLs can only contain letters, numbers, hyphens, and underscores.
      • Note: when you change a group's friendly URL, no redirects are created from the old URL to the new one. This will break any links you may have made to the FAQs within that group. To see if you have any links within LibAnswers that contain the group's old friendly URL, use the Search & Replace tool under Admin > Assets > Search & Replace Links.

Manage a group's availability and LibAuth authentication

Availability

The group's availability is a very important setting, as it determines who has the ability to view and search for the group's FAQs. Here's a summary of each option and how they affect the visibility of the FAQs within the group.

Availability Pages publicly accessible? FAQs appear in general search results? FAQs appear in question lists?
Public/Open Yes Yes Yes
Hidden Only to users who know the friendly URL No No
Internal Only to logged-in users No No
Restricted Internal Only to logged-in users who have been given access to the group No No

Note: if you have restricted access of your public LibAnswers pages to account holders only, all pages will only be accessible to logged-in users, regardless of the group availability setting.

  1. Go to Admin > FAQ Groups.
  2. Find the group you want to customize and click on its edit () icon in the Actions column.
  3. Under the General tab, click on the Group Availability panel to expand it.
  4. Select a new option from the Availability dropdown.
  5. Click the Save button.

Enable LibAuth Authentication

Any FAQ groups (not including 24/7 Staffing or Group Member Policy FAQ groups) can be put behind a LibAuth authentication rule to require users to login before accessing that FAQ group's public pages.

LibAuth access rules will only apply to the public side of your LibAnswers FAQ group(s), not the admin pages.

  1. Go to Admin > FAQ Groups.
  2. Find the group you want to customize and click on its edit () icon in the Actions column.
  3. Under the General tab, click on the Group Availability panel to expand it.
  4. Select a configuration to use from the Enable LibAuth Authentication dropdown.
  5. Click the Save button.
