Queues: Registering SMS Numbers

In this article

Why does my SMS number need to be registered?

U.S. wireless carriers (including AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, and Sprint) are requiring that all SMS providers sending messages via A2P 10DLC (application-to-person 10-digit long codes) register their use of these numbers with The Campaign Registry. They are doing this to ensure trusted messages are sent and reduce the amount of spam messages being sent via their networks.

LibAnswers SMS numbers fall into the category of numbers that must be registered. This registration is required to ensure that LibAnswers SMS numbers are trusted and continue to send messages out to your communities. We will take care of the registration process, but need some information from our LibAnswers customers (below) to do so. If your LibAnswers SMS number is not registered, wireless carriers now mark the number as spam and block it from sending messages. Springshare will not block the number, but wireless carriers (T-Mobile, AT&T, etc.) do.

What happens if I don't register my SMS number?

If you do not register your SMS number, you will be unable to send any outbound SMS messages to your users. If you no longer want an SMS number in your LibAnswers system, please reach out to your Regional Sales Manager to have the number removed. If you would like to register your SMS number, please submit a support ticket via our form here with the following details:

  • Institutional EIN (Federal Tax ID)

I submitted my institutional details but my registration is still in review.

Once your registration is under review with our service provider, the approval process could take several weeks due to a number of verification steps required by The Campaign Registry. There are three separate registration steps, each one can take a few weeks to complete. Unfortunately, there is no way to speed up this approval process, as it is totally out of our hands.

Important: During this review period, you will not be able to send outbound SMS messages (but will still receive SMS messages from your patrons) after August 31, 2023.

In the last few months, our Service Provider has set an arbitrary deadline for filtering SMS messages for numbers that have not completed the process. This deadline is despite them knowing that each step of the verification process can take 3 or more weeks. We apologize for any frustration this may cause. We are equally frustrated by this process and are doing everything we can to push things through as quickly as possible. However, we are unfortunately limited by this framework and third-party requirements in the US for SMS.
