LibApps Profile: Customize your public profile (e.g., image pronouns, contact info, widgets, etc.)

In this article

Your LibApps profile's My Profile is used primarily for adding content to your profile box and page in LibGuides, though certain elements like the profile image are used in other tools where you have access. (Additional customizations may be possible in the various other apps where profiles are used (LibCal, etc.).)

For your profile, you're able to:

Getting there

  1. Navigate to LibApps.
  2. Click on  My Profile in the command bar.
  3. Stay on the Profile Box tab.

Set box title, add pronouns, & adjust your profile image

When you add your profile box to a page in LibGuides, the heading of that box will display the Box Title from your LibApps profile settings. Additionally, when your profile box is added to a LibGuide page, you can opt to let people know what Pronouns you use. And set/change the profile image that you use in your profile box.

To customize these:

  1. Click on the current Box Title to change it.
    • To use the default title of "Librarian", leave the Box Title field empty.
    • Note: In LibGuides, the title of a profile box you add to a page can be customized. These individual customizations will override the Box Title you've set in your LibApps profile settings.
  2. Click on the Pronouns field to add yours.
    • Examples: she/her/hers, they/them/theirs, he/him/his, we/us/ours.
    • Note: If you would prefer to not include pronouns, leave this field blank. It will only display on your profile when content has been added.
  3. Select an option from the Profile Image dropdown to add/change your image.
    • To keep using the currently uploaded image, select Display current profile image.
    • To use the default placeholder image, select Do not display a profile image.
    • To change your profile image, select Upload a new profile image and select the image you want to use.
      • Note: Large images can greatly slow down page load times, so try to avoid full-sized or uncompressed images.

Customize your contact info

You can include optional contact info in your profile box, such as your address, phone number, and email address. This is a great way to let patrons know how to get in contact with you when viewing your guides or profile page in LibGuides.

Under the Profile Box tab, click on any option in the Contact Info box to customize it. (To remove an option from your profile box, leave the field empty.) These options include:

  1. Your physical or mailing address.
  2. Your phone number. This will display below your address.
  3. Your preferred email address. When you provide an email address, a blue Email Me button will appear under your profile image.
  4. To display your contact info in both your profile box and profile page, click the Page & Box button. Otherwise, click the Page Only button to only display it on your full profile page.
  5. Your Skype username. When you provide a username, a blue Skype icon will appear that users can click to start a Skype call with you.
  6. The URL to your website or blog. When you provide a URL, a bookmark icon linked to that URL will display under your address and phone number.

Add LibAnswers, LibChat, LibCal, & third-party widgets

If you would like, you can add widgets to your profile -- for LibAnswers, LibChat, LibCal, or really any widgets that would fit well in a profile box. This makes it super easy for your patrons to ask you questions or chat with you wherever your profile box is being displayed.

  1. LibAnswers Widget Code: Copy and paste the widget's embed code from LibAnswers and click on the checkmark button to save it.
    • You can create and get embed code for non-chat widgets by logging into LibAnswers and going to Admin > Widgets & API.
    • You can create and get embed code for chat widgets by logging into LibAnswers and going to LibChat > Chat Widgets.
    • To display your widget in both your profile box and profile page, click the Page & Box button. Otherwise, click the Page Only button to only display it on your full profile page.
  2. LibCal Widget Code: Copy and paste the widget's embed code from LibCal and click on the checkmark button to save it.
    • You can create a personal Appointments widget by logging into LibCal and going to Appointments > Widget/Embed Code.
    • To display your widget in both your profile box and profile page, click the Page & Box button. Otherwise, click the Page Only button to only display it on your full profile page.
  3. Other Widget Code: Copy and paste the widget's embed code and click on the checkmark button to save it.
    • IMPORTANT: before saving, please remove any <script> tags that are attempting to load any version of jQuery (e.g. jquery.min.js).
    • Because all Springy apps already load jQuery, including jQuery in your widget will cause any pages containing your profile box to stop working correctly.
    • To display your widget in both your profile box and profile page, click the Page & Box button. Otherwise, click the Page Only button to only display it on your full profile page.
