Equipment: Customize the catalog and item templates

In this article

The Equipment Catalog and Equipment Item templates allow you to customize the appearance of items in the public catalog's search results and the layout of an individual item record (what the patron sees when they click on an item in the catalog search results).

What are templates? How do I use them?

The information in your catalog is based on several layout templates. Each template consists of HTML code and tags:

  • The HTML provides the overall structure of the information in each template. This can be customized to change the layout and styles of information on the page.
  • The tags insert information about the item into the page. Think of these as placeholders for the actual data, such as an item's name, description, etc.

Each template has its own set of tags, which will be listed next to the template's code. This will let you know which tags are available for a particular template and the proper syntax to use (e.g. {{NAME}}). When adding tags, remember:

  • Tags are case sensitive. All of the tags must be written in UPPER CASE.
  • Some tags have two brackets (e.g. {{NAME}}), while others have three (e.g. {{{DESCRIPTION}}}). Double-check the list of available tags for each template to see the number of brackets needed for each.
