Configuring your default financial year dates

The Financial Year Dates are used to set the default date filters applied when analyzing data. These could be fiscal year dates, academic year dates, calendar year dates, or whatever is most useful to you! You can even choose to have LibInsight automatically adjust these dates at the conclusion of each financial year (i.e. increase the year of the Start Date and End Date).

When using financial year dates, please keep in mind the following when analyzing a dataset:

  • If the dataset's earliest record occurs after the start date of your current financial year, the From date filter will default to that date.
  • If the dataset's earliest record occurs before the start date of your current financial year, the From date filter will default to the financial year's start date.
  • If you allow LibInsight to automatically adjust your financial year dates, the To date filter will default to the financial year end date.
  • If you do not allow LibInsight to automatically adjust your financial year dates, the To date filter will default to either the current date or the financial year's end date (whichever is later).

Setting your financial year dates

  1. Go to Admin > System Settings.
  2. In the Financial Year Dates section,  click in the Start Date field to set the starting date for the year.
  3. Then set the End Date field for the year.
  4. Next, choose whether you want LibInsight to automatically adjust these dates at the beginning of each new fiscal year.
    1. If you select Yes, LibInsight will automatically increase the Start Date year and End Date year accordingly. For example:
      • If your financial year was July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019, LibInsight would adjust these to July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020 effective July 1, 2019.
      • As a result, you would see these new financial year dates when you analyze datasets starting on July 1, 2019.
      • These would continue to automatically adjust accordingly on July 1 of each following year.
    2. If you select No, LibInsight will not automatically adjust your financial dates. For example:
      • If your financial year was July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019, those dates would remain unchanged even after the year ended on June 30, 2019.
      • As a result, you would still see those financial year dates when you analyze datasets starting on July 1, 2019.
      • These would remain unchanged unless you or another Admin user manually adjusts them.
  5. Click the Save All System Settings button at the bottom of the page.
