Provide certificates of completion for quiz submissions

You can provide users with a customized certificate of completion after they submit a quiz. Each certificate can be personalized to include details about the quiz, including the:

  • Title of your quiz
  • Name of your library (from your LibApps customer record)
  • Number of graded questions that were answered correctly
  • Total number of graded questions
  • Percentage of correct answers
  • Submission date and time

In addition, you can insert data from any field in your quiz. For example, if you added a Name field to your quiz, you could use that to display the user's name in the certificate of completion.

The text, formatting, and styles of your certificate can be customized using a rich text editor, with a built-in preview area so you can see how your certificate will appear to users.

Certificates will be presented on the Thank You screen after a quiz has been submitted. A user can choose to print and/or email their certificate, allowing them to retain and share a record of completing the quiz.

Enable & customize the certificate of completion

Before enabling your certificate of completion, we strongly recommend that you add a Name field to your quiz (if you haven't already). Although not required, it will allow you to display the user's name directly in their certificate.

  1. While editing your quiz, click on the Thank You Screen section of the Workpad.

The Thank You Screen section of the workpad

  1. In the Thank You Screen window, click on the Certificate of Completion tab.
  2. By default, the certificate will be disabled and cannot be edited. Click on the Certificate of Completion Enabled option to enable it.

Options under the Certificate of Completion tab

  1. When first enabled, you'll see the default certificate template text and layout. Use the rich text editor to add or edit the template's text, apply styles, and change formatting.
    1. The text contained inside of curly brackets are tokens. These are placeholders for field values or details about the quiz submission. Wherever a token is placed in your template text, the user will see the corresponding data in the certificate itself. For example, the {{{ date }}} token in your template would display the user's submission date & time in their certificate.
    2. In the Standard Tokens box, you'll find a list of all default tokens available in every quiz. This includes things like the quiz title, percent correct, and submission date. Click on any token to copy it to your clipboard, then paste it into the rich text editor where you would like it to display.
    3. In the Submitter Field Tokens box, you'll find a list of all Name, Email, and/or Phone fields added to your quiz. These tokens will display the data entered by the user in those fields. Click on any token to copy it to your clipboard, then paste it into the rich text editor where you would like it to display.
    4. In the Other Field Tokens box, you'll find a list of all other input and multiple choice fields in your quiz. These tokens will display the data entered by the user in those fields. Click on any token to copy it to your clipboard, then paste it into the rich text editor where you would like it to display.
    5. Below the rich text editor, you'll find the Preview area. This will show you in real time how your certificate would look to users after submitting your quiz, which is especially helpful to see how token data will look. (Note: the preview does not include any custom JS/CSS code added to your quiz or system settings, though it will be applied on the actually public view of your certificate.)
    6. If you would like to start over at any point, click on the Restore Default Template button below the Preview area. This will remove all customizations made in the rich text editor and replace it with the default template text.
  2. When finished customizing your certificate, click on the Save button.

Viewing a submission's certificate

A quiz's owner, Admin users, and Regular users with Edit or View permission can generate a certificate of completion for any submission. This can be helpful if the user lost or forgot to retain their own copy, or if you made changes to the certificate template after users started taking your quiz.

  1. While editing your quiz, click on the View Reports button.
    • Or, from the Quizzes landing page, click on the quiz's link in the #Submissions column.

The View Reports button

  1. Under the Data Table tab of your report, click on the graduation cap () icon for a submission to view its certificate.

  1. This will open the certificate in a new tab, with options to print or download a PDF copy of the certificate.

Disable the certificate of completion

You can disable the certificate at any time by returning to this window and switching off the Certificate of Completion Enabled option. Please note that this will also remove the option of viewing certificates in your quiz's reports, as well. When disabled, your customizations to the certificate template will be retained. However, your settings will be frozen in Read-Only Mode. This means you will be unable to make further changes until you re-enable the certificate of completion.
