Assets: merge duplicate assets

In this article

Merging assets is something the Springy Support team can help you with. Here's how it works in a nutshell:

  1. Download the spreadsheet template.
  2. For each row of the spreadsheet, enter the ID number of the asset you want to keep in the "parent_id" column.
  3. Then, in the "child_ids" column, enter the ID number(s) of the asset(s) you want to merge into that parent asset.
    • Please note: you can only merge assets of the same type (so you can merge a link into a link, but not a book into a link)
    • If adding multiple child IDs in that column, separate child ID(s) using a comma OR a space in that cell, but not both.
  4. Save the file as a CSV using UTF-8. (Please be sure it's only UTF-8 and not with any additions (e.g., UTF-8 with BOM).)
  5. Once you've finished the spreadsheet, have an Admin-level LibGuides user send it to the Springy Support team along with your LibGuides Site ID (this can be found from the Admin > System Settings > System Information box) to have the merge run. and we'll run the merge for you.
    • This will merge both the mappings and statistics of the child assets into the parent assets.
    • The merge process will not delete the merged child assets; however, we can separately delete all of your unmapped assets if you'd like -- just let us know.
  6. The Support Team will follow up with you once the merge has been completed.
    • Turnaround time will vary depending upon the amount of data being merged. Thanks in advance for your patience!
