Groups: Customize a group's banner image, header, or footer

In this article

Each group in LibGuides CMS has its own separate look and feel settings that can be used to adjust the display of only that group. This includes a header and footer that displays at the top of each group page and guide.

Customizing a group's page header

A group's page header can be set with its own image or custom HTML, along with an option to exclude the system-level header if you want to set the group up with a look that is unique.

  1. Go to Admin > Groups.

Navigating to the Groups page

  1. Locate the group you want to customize and click on its Edit () icon in the Actions column.

Editing a group

  1. Click on the Header/Footer/Tabs/Boxes tab.
  2. In the Group Header panel, choose Use this image if you want to upload a banner image, or choose Display this HTML if you would like to create a header from HTML code.
    1. If you want to exclude the system-level header, check the Exclude System Level Header checkbox. If this option is unchecked, the group-level header will display below the system-level header on public pages in the group.
    2. Upload a banner image: click the Use this image link and the Select New Banner button will appear. Click that button and select the image you want to upload from your computer. For best results, use an image with a width no smaller than 1170px.
    3. Display this HTML: with this option selected, you can create a header using HTML code. This is helpful if you want an advanced layout. For best results, only include HTML code here -- CSS and JavaScript code should be added under the Custom JS/CSS Code tab.

Customizing a group's footer

A group's page footer can be set with its own custom HTML, along with an option to exclude the system-level footer if you want to set the group up with a look that is unique. This will display on all public and guide pages in the group, at the bottom of the page.

  1. Go to Admin > Groups.
  2. Locate the group you want to customize and click on its Edit () icon in the Actions column.
  3. Click on the Header/Footer/Tabs/Boxes tab.
  4. Click on the Group Footer panel to expand it, then add your HTML code to the Group Footer HTML space.
    1. If you want to exclude the system-level footer, check the Exclude system level footer checkbox. If this option is unchecked, the group-level footer will display below the system-level footer on public pages in the group.
    2. For best results: Do not add your custom style (CSS) here, unless it's inline styles. If you're adding style to classes and IDs used in your HTML, add that to the Custom JS/CSS tab instead.
